Embroidery Placement, Color Approval, and Clear Production Specifications A client approached us to develop four crewneck sweatshirt samples across two colorways and four sizes. Although each sample used the same base silhouette, the embroidery placement, artwork sizing, and color treatment needed to be clearly defined before production could begin. The sample order included: Crewneck Sweatshirt, Size S — Ivory White Crewneck Sweatshirt, Size M — Ivory White Crewneck Sweatshirt, Size L — Gradient Pink Crewneck Sweatshirt, Size XL — Gradient Pink Each version featured the “Hampton Water Rosé” embroidered artwork, measuring approximately 2.5 inches wide by 2.2 inches high.
The first stage focused on reviewing the order and identifying the details that still needed clarification. While the product type, sizes, and colorways had already been established, several production specifications remained open. These needed to be resolved before sampling to ensure that all four sweatshirts followed a consistent and approved direction. The main objective was to align the sample breakdown, embroidery layout, and intended color treatment before the factory began work.
One of the main questions concerned embroidery placement. The references showed chest embroidery across all styles, while the Gradient Pink versions appeared to include additional embroidery on the sleeve.
Before sampling, it was important to confirm whether the Ivory White sweatshirts should feature chest embroidery only and the Gradient Pink versions should include both chest and sleeve embroidery, or whether all four samples should follow the same layout.
The color treatment also required approval. For the Gradient Pink sweatshirts, the client needed to decide whether the finish should match the reference as closely as possible or whether several gradient options should be prepared for review. For Ivory White, the team needed confirmation that the fabric should remain a clean, solid color without washing, fading, or tonal variation.
Special attention was given to:
size and color breakdown
consistency of embroidery placement
embroidery artwork scale
execution of the gradient effect
approval of the solid Ivory White finish
consistency between the visual references and production specifications
Before the factory could begin producing the samples, all open specifications needed final approval. This ensured that the production team would work from one clear set of instructions rather than interpret unresolved details independently.
Clarifying the embroidery placement, color treatment, and finishing requirements in advance helped reduce the risk of unnecessary revisions and gave the client greater control over the sampling process.
The result was a clear development plan covering four defined product variants, approved embroidery dimensions, and the specifications required to begin accurate sample production.
Four sweatshirt samples. Two color directions. One embroidery concept requiring precise execution.
