Custom Wide-Leg Denim Development with a Statement Finish Innovative Custom Denim with Interchangeable Side Panels Flexible Product Development for Bold Fashion Concepts
This project began with a clear objective: to create a pair of women’s wide-leg jeans with a strong visual identity and a customizable design concept.
A key part of this project was balancing denim durability with decorative versatility.
The base garment was developed in light blue and indigo denim, following the required fabric specifications and wash direction. At the same time, the removable side panels were designed as customizable visual elements capable of completely transforming the look of the jeans.
We explored several design directions for the panels, including embroidered ornamental trims, intricate paisley-inspired layouts, and bold psychedelic print concepts. Because the panels were long, narrow, and visually prominent, the artwork had to be carefully adapted to this format. Scale, rhythm, color balance, and vertical continuity were all considered to ensure the design read clearly and consistently from waist to hem.
Special attention was also given to the Velcro system. The soft loop side was securely sewn onto the jeans, while the hook side was attached to the back of each decorative panel. All materials had to remain lightweight, flexible, durable, and washable without compromising the overall look and feel of the garment.
Once the visual direction and construction method were approved, we moved into sample development.
Special attention was given to:
• wide-leg balance and proportion
• side seam integration
• secure Velcro attachment
• panel alignment from waist to hem
• wash performance and durability
• ease of panel removal and replacement
Because this design combined statement styling with modular functionality, refinement was essential. The jeans needed to look complete and polished both with and without the decorative panels. The side strips also had to attach smoothly, lie flat, and preserve the intended line of the silhouette.
The final result was a bold modular denim concept that combined practicality with strong visual impact.
